Neben Greenfield und Brownfield gibt es einen dritten Fall: ein Industrieareal, das erneuert wird, während es weiterläuft — ohne Ankerunternehmen, ohne Krise, ohne Masterplan. Bluefield Transformation beschreibt diesen dritten Fall: privat initiiert, gemeinsam getragen von Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und öffentlicher Hand.
Seit 2019 in der Praxis
Der Ansatz wird seit 2019 im Berner Seeland entwickelt — zunächst als Trägergruppe, seit Januar 2022 als Verein. Er ist damit keine Theorie, sondern gewachsene Praxis.

The case behind the term: how an industrial area renews itself while it keeps running
An industrial area renewed while it keeps running — without an anchor company, without a crisis, without a master plan. Bluefield Transformation describes this third case alongside greenfield and brownfield: privately initiated, jointly governed by companies, science and public authorities.
The organisation behind it was founded in January 2022, building on an initiative that began in 2019, and has been developing the approach in an industrial zone in the Swiss Seeland region since. A book documenting the method is currently in preparation (as of August 2026).
